Dundalk Sub-Aqua Club have a voluntary active Search & Recovery Unit on call and ready at any time to respond to calls for rescue/recovery of missing persons, from rivers, lakes, harbours and the coastal waters around the North East region. However we have assisted the emergency services in a number of searches as far north as Ardglass in Co. Down and Co. Waterford in the south of the country.
We have ten fully certified Search & Recovery divers, some of whom are widely experienced and have been involved in search & recovery for a number of years. We hope to expand on this number very shortly by running our next official training programme for individuals within Dundalk Sub-Aqua Club who are willing to undertake what is required to become a Search & Recovery diver. But whilst searching rivers, lakes etc is not every body’s cup of tea, we do have a barrage of other volunteers who are more than willing to assist us in every other way possible to co-ordinate searches.
From Diver Cox’ns , Shore Marshals, Equipment facilitators, to those who provide food and hot drinks to some times frost bitten individuals emerging from the searches. All jobs are equally important when an operation is being carried out.
